Dr. Jivan Thakare
POSITION: Senior Engineer, Electrochemical Process Development

Dr. Jivan Thakare is a Research Engineer in Electrochemical Process Development at the EERC, where he performs research, development, application, and demonstration of electrochemical technologies for bidirectional conversion of electrical and chemical energy. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from UND, an M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University, and a B.S. degree in Polymer Technology from India. Prior to his current position, he served as a researcher at the same facility.

Dr. Thakare has a strong background in developing the design, synthesis, and characterization of electrolytic cells for performance and durability studies. His principal areas of interest and expertise include, nanocatalyst synthesis, solid-state electrolyte development, membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) fabrication, and electrochemical characterization. His current research projects include the development of 1) high-temperature proton-conducting material, 2) low-pressure electrolytic ammonia process, 3) carbon-free catalyst support for proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, and 4) platinum group metal (PGM)-free catalyst for PEM fuel cells.
