BPOP
Optimizing Oil Production in the Bakken
The Bakken Production Optimization Program (BPOP) was established in June 2013 to facilitate Bakken petroleum system oil recovery while simultaneously reducing the environmental footprint of oil and gas development. This program is administered by the EERC, with funding from the North Dakota Industrial Commission (NDIC) Oil and Gas Research Program (OGRP) and the North Dakota petroleum industry.
Through BPOP, the EERC collaborates closely with industry partners and North Dakota tackle emerging opportunities and challenges in Bakken development. BPOP aims to boost production efficiency by coordinating reservoir management, well design, processing, and waste management. Through applied research, it strives to reduce carbon intensity, offer science-based guidance for sustainable Bakken development, and equip stakeholders with the knowledge needed for innovative strategies to propel the Bakken forward.
