The EERC is looking for a Research Chemist whose primary focus is to work in strong collaboration with EERC subject matter experts, principal investigators, and EERC leadership to conduct laboratory analyses and experiments and to interpret laboratory data to support research activities related to energy production from coal and oil, recovery of rare-earth elements (REEs) and other critical minerals from domestic resources, and characterization of fluids related to oil production.
The EERC is looking for a Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry Scientist whose primary focus is to work in strong collaboration with EERC subject matter experts, principal investigators, and EERC leadership to conduct laboratory analyses and experiments and interpret laboratory data to support research activities related to improved production of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in unconventional and conventional formations and fuels analysis; work as part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to ensure that laboratory work is successfully completed on time, on budget, and within client expectations; perform analytical research focused on chemical and geochemical evaluation of water, oil, rocks and other natural and man-made materials; ensure that laboratory data and results are of excellent quality and integrated with the theoretical, modeling, and field components of related EERC research efforts; adhere to laboratory safety protocols and assist in regular review and updating of laboratory safety plans; work closely with senior staff, project managers, and laboratory staff to develop and expand the research-based efforts occurring in the laboratories; set up equipment and instrumentation to allow for chemical and geochemical analysis of oil and rock samples; and provide technical assistance on projects related to CO2 EOR, CO2 storage, unconventional hydrocarbon recovery, natural resource management, biofuels development, critical resource characterization and recovery, geologic and synthetic materials characterization, and the environmental aspects of energy development.
The EERC is looking for a Software Developer whose primary focus is to design, create, test, troubleshoot, and maintain new and existing software applications (desktop, Web-based, and mobile), many of which are database driven; translate client requirements and formulate detailed specifications, budgets, and timelines; create and maintain product documentation; independently research and resolve complex technical programming problems; and other duties as assigned.
The EERC is looking for a Geoscientist – CCS MRV/MVA Coordinator whose primary focus is to work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, business professionals and EERC stakeholders to solve challenges related to incremental oil recovery, unconventional oil recovery, geothermal energy, gas storage, and CO2 capture, utilization, and geologic storage. The successful applicant will stay apprised of the opportunities and challenges facing the energy industry and engage with stakeholders to inform strategies and implement solutions that enable the prudent production and use of fossil and renewable energy. A primary function of the position is to apply technical knowledge to support the development of compliant MRV and MVA plans related to financial incentive and permitting programs associated with emerging CCS and other Environmental Social Governance projects being developed in the United States and Canada.
The EERC is looking for a Librarian & Archivist whose primary focus is to provide research and reference assistance in person and remotely to EERC staff (primary user group) and UND faculty, staff, and students; provide EERC documents and products to the broader local, national, and international community when appropriate; assist with the maintenance of books and subscriptions and appropriate access according to format; assist with the facilitation and management of the services provided by the UND Chester Fritz Library such as interlibrary loan and cataloging on behalf of the EERC Library; comply with procedures for handling confidential and proprietary information; follow approved UND and North Dakota records schedules and procedures for retention or destruction, and help develop schedules as needed; ensure access to the EERC’s permanently active archives through the proper accessioning, processing, and cataloging of incoming and backlogged records and collections; utilize the EERC Records database to help manage the permanently active archives of the EERC; provide for digital reproduction of EERC records for preservation or as requested by EERC staff and external requesters; maintain publications list for the EERC and its researchers (including writing citations for project deliverables); promote the services of the EERC Library and Information Services group and other campus libraries; and participate in campus-wide library discussions.
The EERC is looking for an Outreach Coordinator whose primary focus is the coordination, creation, and maintenance of project-specific website content; coordinate with web team on website analytics and search engine optimization reports for project-specific sites; development of products in a variety of formats (such as fact sheets, news releases, and key messages) to promote and inform about technical projects; coordination of outreach activities such as exhibit booths, community meetings and open houses, hands-on displays, podcast content, etc.; assist in disseminating outreach products; track and report on outreach activities and information dissemination efforts; and assist in the coordination efforts to develop, maintain, and implement outreach plans for EERC projects.
The EERC is looking for a Senior Geoscientist whose primary focus is developing and overseeing the development of geophysical models of the subsurface; performing regional geologic characterization; performing petrophysical analyses of geophysical well log data; assisting in the preparation of technical proposals, reports, and presentations; and interfacing with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to assess project uncertainties in oil and gas development and geologic CO2 storage.
The EERC is looking for a Principal Geoscience Data and Software Manager whose primary focus is to work with EERC Research, Information Technology, and Contracts staff to procure, manage, and maintain geoscience and other software licenses; organize and manage a variety of geoscience data, including data collected during field and laboratory activities; maintain databases and conduct routine maintenance as needed to ensure data integrity; communicate with principal investigators, project managers, and team members about data and software changes or requirements; participate in database development and management, and make recommendations for software, hardware, and data storage upgrades; and review and prepare data for analysis and/or use in geoscience software packages.
The EERC is looking for a Reservoir Engineer whose primary focus is to evaluate and interpret geoscience and engineering data using advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to better inform unconventional oil and gas development, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), and subsurface CO2 or rich gas storage; integrate machine learning, visualization, and artificial intelligence into existing workflows for the upstream oil and gas applications; proactively find opportunities for applying advanced data analytics within the organization by collaborating with different geoscience and engineering teams across multiple projects; incorporate advanced data analytics into software solutions to drive speed and scale; build internal awareness (within the organization) of data mining/advanced analytics capabilities to elevate the knowledge of these techniques across the EERC geoscience and engineering teams and constructively work with other groups at the center; suggest, assist with, and prepare proposals to potential clients; manage client tasks and projects; and report results to clients.
The EERC is looking for a Geospatial Solutions Specialist whose primary focus is to support ongoing GIS data development, spatial analysis, and data visualization across a variety of energy and environmental research projects, with an emphasis on subsurface research and development, specifically within the oil and gas industry, or other geology-related projects (e.g., carbon capture and storage); collect, reduce, analyze, and interpret data, ensure quality control, and compile results in an organized, orderly format; create publication-quality maps and figures and perform data analysis, with the ability to complete the unique, project-related products quickly; work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and effectively communicate ideas, opinions, and solutions related to current and future project activities; support energy and environmental research projects through activities such as data analysis/interpretation, subject matter research, laboratory analysis, field work, or demonstration facility work; and assist in the preparation of technical proposals, reports, publications, and presentations.
The EERC is looking for an IT Support Specialist whose primary focus is to act as dispatch for IT Service Request system (IT ticketing) to execute IT support and properly delegate IT tasks to other IT team members. The EERC is looking for a Research Manager whose primary focus is maintaining knowledge of contractual scopes of work, timelines, and required deliverables and helping ensure adherence to these requirements; assisting principal investigators and project managers in conducting scientific research; coordinating with technical and support teams to develop scopes of work, plan budgets and timelines, and execute research activities; preparing technical and nontechnical documents such as topical reports, posters, proposals, and progress reports; and preparing slides for technical presentations using PowerPoint.
The EERC is looking for a Contract/IP Officer whose primary focus is to prepare, review, negotiate, and administer contracts, subcontracts, and confidentiality and other agreements; research and understand complex regulations and clearly and concisely interpret them; assure compliance with government regulations and University of North Dakota policies; determine the allowability of cost to be charged to contracts; advise staff of the administration requirements of contracts; provide the mechanism to meet the needs of the managers’ as well as the sponsors’ requirements; and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers to ensure timely communications of changes in policies, procedures, etc., that may impact their work.
